About

Health disparities are avoidable differences in health among specific population groups (generally minorities) that result from cummulative social disadvantages.  Because of the conditions that many minorities live in the have less access to health care and suffer from more chronic diseases.  Many of the disparities come from factors outside of the individuals control such as environmental factors.  There may be a smaller availability of good foods in a less affluent area, poorer air quality, more violence causeing stress and other factors that make people more susceptible to chronic conditions and poorer health.
